My dear friend Ruthanne Focht is adopting her third son. I could not be more excited for her and want to give back to her for all she has done for me from loving my daughter for 4 years in her special education classroom to showing me a waiting child list that lead us to Fisher. So for any burp, bib, bloomer or pillowcase that is ordered now through the end of January I will give her $5.00 for each item to Ruthanne towards her adoption fees. I am taking a long vacation with my family as we are tacking on a work trip with my husband. I am thinking of it as an extended maternity leave as I never took any time off when my son came home in March. We are heading west to visit some sites and some friends. Saturday is La Grange's Annual Pet Parade and Stitches So Sweet is ready. All for of my kids will be handing out candy as they march the parade route with the Comanche Tribe and the Fox Tribe. I even think Levi will be along for the ride.

Thank you everyone for all your amazing support in helping us bring our son home from Ethiopia. He came home March 16 and has settled in great. He is in 1st grade with Tate and loving his new life in America. The picture of my cuties will link you directly to my personal family blog.

When I was in Ethiopia in November my husband and I both visited the Hamlin Fistula Hospital. I was moved to tears there, it was everything and more that I had read about in the book Hospital by the River written by Dr. Catherine Hamlin. You can also see a documentary about this wonderful place called A Walk to Beautiful. Oprah has also done a wonderful special on this amazing place.

This hospital is like no other. It is a place that women come to after suffering an obstetric fistula. Some of these women have lived in isolation for years, shunned by their family and friends. Once they make it to the hospital they are given a life altering fistula repair surgery. These women then start on the path to heal physically and emotionally. My husband and I even met a woman that had traveled 4 months on foot to deliver her baby. She had had a previous fistula repair and was told if she got pregnant again to start walking and she did. She delivered a beautiful baby girl and was Fistula Free.

With your help, Stitches So Sweet is pledging to sponsor a woman’s fistula surgery. This costs just $700. All women are given the gift of surgery regardless of their ability to pay. For every bloomer sold from now until September 1, 2011, Stitches So Sweet will make a donation to Fistula Hospital. If you would like to donate additional money to your order to go towards a surgery, I will make sure that the donation is made. Once we are matched with a woman, I will share her story with you all. This is a chance for us to be part of a change in one woman’s life.

I was asked last week by a Kindergarten mom in Georgia to make a pillowcase for a sick little girl named Uma. She wanted to get it as soon as possible so all the kids could put their hand prints on it and Uma could have it with her in the hospital.

Uma is currently looking for a bone marrow donor to save her life. They are specifically looking for a donor from the South Asian origin (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc.) as they will have a higher likelihood of matching with her.

Would you consider registering as a bone marrow donor. I just did. It is really easy and is free (although you can make a donation). You have a swab kit sent to you and you send it back and you are registered. Should you have a match to Uma or anyone, you could save their life and the donation is not invasive. On November 5th I am leaving for Ethiopia with my husband to meet our new son for the first time! We will be home on November 14. On this trip, we will just be visiting Fisher. He will come home with us on our 2nd trip after the court process is complete.

I’m always excited to discover another business that offers personalized and unique gift options, like Stitches So Sweet. Stitches So Sweet is a company by Jill who does custom embroidery and sewing. Her online shop has everything from pillowcases, blankets, to burp cloths and adorable bloomers!

Now I am a huge fan of personalized products because my name, Sherri, isn't spelled the traditional way of "Sherry" or "Sherrie," and isn't found on anything. So if I wanted anything with my name on it, it's got to be custom made.

Jill very graciously sent my daughter a pair of their sweet baby bloomers embroidered with a J on it for Julia's name. Just look at how cute it is. It is too cute for words!

I had a hard time just picking one bloomer. There are so many bloomersto choose from and all are too darn cute. Julia wore these just like shorts for the first time... and as you can see they are adorable so I snapped a shot of her real quick and uploaded it to facebook! Obviously, she got many compliments. We have been busy preparing for our son's arrival from Ethiopia and I must admit that I have Africa on the brain :) I came up with this adorable design for a friend that is adopting a daughter from Ethiopia and wanted to share it with you.

I wanted to let you all know that I've added 5 new fabrics to the Girl Flannel Blanket Selection. You can take a peek at all of the darling fabrics that I have for both girls and boys in the slide shows below.

My flannel blankets are completely custom made. You choose two flannel fabrics from our girl or boy collection and let us know how you would like it personalized. They measure around 38x40 inches and are filled with cotton quilter's batting. They are so soft and cuddly!
